What Is the Entry/Exit System (EES)

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a biometric data collection and tracking system that was set up by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The system is used to track the entry and exit of non-U.S. citizens into and out of the United States.

The EES is designed to help ensure border security by allowing the DHS to collect biometric information from visitors, such as photographs, fingerprints, and other identity documents. This information is then stored in a database and used to verify a person’s identity and to track their movements. The system is also used to detect overstays, meaning visitors who remain in the United States past the expiration of their visas.

The EES is an important part of the DHS’s efforts to protect the United States from potential terrorist attacks and other security threats. By collecting and storing biometric information on visitors, the DHS is able to quickly identify individuals who may pose a threat or who are attempting to enter the country without authorization. The system also helps to prevent visa overstays, which are a major issue in the United States.

In addition to the security benefits, the EES also helps to streamline the immigration process for travelers. By collecting biometric information and tracking entry and exit records, the system helps to ensure that visitors are accurately identified and that they are entering and exiting the country on time.

Overall, the Entry/Exit System (EES) is a valuable tool for the DHS and for travelers entering and exiting the United States. The system helps to ensure border security and to streamline the immigration process.
