SKVC • Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education

The SKVC Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education is a joint venture between the University of Vilnius and the State University of Vilnius. It is a government-accredited body that works to ensure the high quality of Lithuanian higher education and to promote global recognition of degree programs. The mission of the Centre is to promote the international mobility of Lithuania’s educational and research communities, to provide international experience for students undertaking qualifications in Lithuania as well as upholding the principles of international academic qualifications as a whole.

The Centre runs an international accreditation program in Lithuania, which is recognized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and is authorized to recognize the quality of higher education study programs in Lithuania. It focuses on assessing the quality of the educational standards, the outcomes, and the quality of the teaching and learning process. Through the accreditation process, the Centre evaluates qualifications and makes sure they meet current educational standards.

The Centre runs several key activities that help to ensure quality assurance in higher education. These include a Quality Assurance System implemented by the Centre, which comprises eight components: compliance with academic standards, curriculum, assessment of student outcomes, quality assurance in teaching and learning, research methods, assessment of teaching quality, academic staff development and research and development.

The Centre also offers a range of knowledge transfer activities. It provides training on a variety of topics, such as assessing student learning outcomes, quality standards for higher education bodies, quality assurance systems and more. The Centre also offers special projects and studies on various topics, such as the impact of higher education reform, the socio-economic impacts of a changing education system, and the ways universities and public sector organisations can work together to running successful quality assurance projects.

Overall, the SKVC Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education provides a valuable service in Lithuania, by ensuring that national and international educational standards are met. The Centre works to ensure that the university sector in Lithuania is best equipped to provide the highest quality of education possible to its students.
