LMIA Work Permits

LMIA work permits are permits issued to Canadian employers to hire foreign workers. The permit is issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is based on an employer’s Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). An LMIA is an assessment of the labour market to determine if the hiring of a foreign worker will have a positive or negative effect on the Canadian labour market. The LMIA assesses the employer’s need for the foreign worker and the impact the worker’s hiring would have on the job opportunities and wages of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. If the LMIA is approved, the employer is then eligible to apply for a work permit for the foreign worker.
