List of Documents Student Required for Applying to Canadian Universities

Canada is one of the most sought after countries for foreign students to pursue their higher studies. The country has many prestigious universities and colleges that offer a wide range of courses and programs in various disciplines. Applying to universities in Canada requires the submission of certain documents. It is important for applicants to remain organized and provide the right set of documents to ensure their application is considered.  

Below is a list of documents a student is required to submit while applying to Canadian universities:  

1. Transcripts: Applicants must submit their academic transcripts from high school and any previously attended universities or colleges. All transcripts should be in English or French and must be officially sealed.  

2. Statement of Purpose: A statement of purpose is a document that outlines the applicant’s academic goals, objectives and interests. It is important to clearly outline why the applicant is interested in pursuing their studies in Canada.  

3. Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must provide two or three letters of recommendation from teachers or employers. These letters should include details on the applicant’s academic and professional achievements.  

4. Language Test Score: As English or French is the official language of Canada, applicants must submit a language test score such as IELTS or TOEFL.  

5. Resume/CV: Applicants must submit their resume/CV that outlines their work experience, extra-curricular activities and any awards or achievements.  

6. Proof of Financial Support: Applicants must provide proof of financial support which includes bank statements, scholarship letter or any other document that proves they can support themselves while studying in Canada.  

The most common way to demonstrate financial support is by providing proof of financial support or a bank statement. The amount of money required for financial support will vary depending on the university, the program of study, and other factors. Generally, universities will require a minimum of CAD$10,000 per year for tuition, fees, and living expenses. In addition, some universities may require an additional amount for international students.

The Global Information Certificate (GIC) is an important component of the proof of financial support when applying to a Canadian university.

7. Passport: Along with other documents, applicants must also submit their valid passport.  

8.Portfolio: Depending on your program of study, you may be required to submit a portfolio of your academic and creative work.  

9.Health Insurance: You must submit proof of health insurance coverage.
